a motor car wishes to complete a 200 km journey in 4 hours. He takes 40
mutes to cover the first 15 km of his journey which lie in a city. At what constant speed should
be done the remaining distance on a highway to reach his destination in the desired

Total distance = 200 km

Distance covered = 15 km

Therefore remaining distance = 185 km

Total time = 4 hours

Time spent in covering 15 km = 40 minutes = 40 / 60 = 2/3 hours

Remaining time = 4 - 2/3 = 10/3 hours

Therefore speed needed to cover remaining 185 km :

speed = distance/time

           = 185 / (10/3) = (185 * 3) / 10 = 555/10 = 55.5 km/h
