A motor of capacity x takes 4 min to complete a job. Another motor of capacity y takes 12 min to complete the same job. If both motors work together, how much time does it take to complete the job?

1/time taken by both motors together =1/time taken by the motor of capacity x +1/time taken by the motor of capacity y=1/4+1/12= 3/12+1/12=4/12=1/3.

X takes 4 mins to complete a job
Y takes 12 mins to complete the same job
Hence they both will take 4/12=3mins time to complete the job
