Explanation:

Given A motor of half hp runs at 500 rpm . If the efficiency of the motor is 60 % then calculate the work done by the motor in one rotation .

  • Power is 1/2 hp = 746 / 2 = 373 W
  • Since efficiency of motor is 60 %
  • The power used in doing work is 60% of 373 W so,
  • P = 373 x 60/100
  • P = 223.8 W
  • Angular velocity of the motor ω = 500 rpm
  • So ω = 500 x 2π / 60 rad/s
  • So ω = 16.6 π rad/s
  • Let the torque be τ
  • So P = τω
  • So τ = P / ω
  •        = 223.8 / 16.6 π
  • Now work done in 1 rotation = τ x 2π
  •                                                 = 223 / 16.6 π x 2π
  •                                                = 26.86 J
