Motorbike is a non-living thing.

  • Movement cannot be used to define whether an organism is living or non living.
  • To define the property of living we need to consider many other factors. movement is not the only character to define the property of living.
  • Growth, Reproduction, metabolism, ability to sense environment, ability to respond, cellular organisation, consciousness are some other factors which are used to define living.
  • When Growth is consider as a factor to define what is living there may be a question that arises in our mind which is non living things like boulders, sand mounds etc... also grow. Their growth is due to the deposition of sand, dust etc... This growth is also increase in mass and size. But we do not consider them as living. Because their growth is not internal.
  • similarly reproduction is not considered as a factor to define living because reproduction includes both sexual and asexual methods. asexual methods. many organisms such as sterile worker bees and mules which do not reproduce are considered as living. Hence both growth and reproduction cannot be considered as defining property of living.
  • what is considered as the defining property is the cellular organisation of the body and consciousness. All living organisms have the ability to sence their environment and have the ability to respond to the external stimuli. All living have are aware of the external environment.
