a motorboat goes downstream in a river and covers the distance between two coastal towns in five hours. It covers this distance upstream in six hours. If the speed of water is 4 km/h. Find the distance between the two towns.​

speed of stream=y

speed of the boat in down stream = X+y=X+4

time taken in down stream=5 hours

d= t*s=(x+4) *5------>I

speed of the boat in up stream = X-y=X- 4

time taken in up stream=6 hours

d= t*s=(x-4) *6------->II

from II and II

(x+4) *5=(x-4) *6

5X+20=6X-24

6X-5X=20+24

X=44

Distance =(44+4)*5=240 km
