A motorboat goes downstream in the river and covers the distance between two coastal town in 3 hours. It covers this distance upstream in 4 hours. If the speed of the stream is 5 km/hr speed of the boat in still water is 35km/hr find the distance between the two coastal towns.

speed of boat in still water =35km/hr
speed of stream =5km/hr
time in downstream=3hr
diatance=(35+5)×3
=120kms
distance between the towns is 120kms

can verify the answer by doing the same for upstream as well

distance= (35-5)×4
120kms
