Suppose the distance between a and b be x km.

Then, time taken when
driving to b from a = (x/39) he
returning to a = (x/29) hr

Hence, total time taken = ( (x/39) + (x/29) ) hr
= ( (29x + 39x) / 29*39 ) hr
= ( (68x) / 1131 ) hr

Total distance = 2x km

Therefore, average speed for the total journey (from a to b and back) = 2x km / ( (68x)/1131 ) hr
= 1131/34 km/hr
= 33.265 km/hr
