let dist covered be x

speed 1 = 40

speed = dist / time

time 1 = dist / speed

= x / 40

speed 2 = 50

time 2 = dist / time

x / 50

average speed = total dist/ total time

= x + x // x/40 + x / 50

= 2x // 9x /200

= 2x × 200/9x

= 44.44 km /h

average velocity = 0

as initial and final position are same
