Given, Total people attended the first showing of a play = 250

Number of adults above the age of 40= 75

Number of people between the ages 20 & 40 = 50

Number of teenagers ages 13-19 =25

Total people other than children ( age of 12 and under) = 75+50+25 =150

Then, the number of children ( age of 12 and under) = 250-150=100

Now , the percentage of the attendees were children 12 and under will be

\begin{gathered}\dfrac{\text{Number of children}}{\text{Total attendees}}\times100\\\\=\dfrac{100}{250}\times100\\\\=40\%\end{gathered}

Hence, the correct answer is 40%.
