Given: Time taken by Door 1 to empty the theater = 3 minutes

Time taken by Door 2 to empty the theater = 6 minutes

To find: Time taken to empty the theater when both doors are available

Solution: Door 1 takes 3 minutes to do the work.

That means, work done by Door 1 in 1 minute = 1/3

Door 2 takes 6 minutes to do the work.

That means, work done by Door 2 in 1 minute = 1/6

Therefore, work done by both the doors in 1 minute = 1/3 + 1/6

                                                                                       = (2 + 1)/6

                                                                                       = 3/6 = 1/2

Hence, it will take 2 minutes to empty the theater when both doors are available.
