A moving car does not stop immediately when the brakes are applied, but it covers some distance before it stops why ?explain this answer with detail explanation only

because due to speed it has some motion in it like when the fan is switched off it till takes time for it   to stop this concludes that inertia plays a important role over here

Due to inertia of motion. A car that is moving tries to prevent from changing from that state of motion to state of rest. That is why when you are riding a bike at a high speed and the front brakes are applied suddenly you tend to fall forward. Another reason is that there is some leftover force which the car uses completely before stopping.
