Let intial speed of train = P m/s
and a is retardation of moving train.
v² = u² + 2aS
0 = P² - 2a × 80
P² = 160a........(i)

if the speed of train is doubled .
e.g., u' = 2P and retardation = a
then, v'² = u'² + 2a'S'
0 = (2P)² - 2a × S'
4P² = 2a × S' .........(ii)

from eqs (i) and (ii),
1/4 = 160/2S'
S' = 320m

hence, distance covered = 320m
