Every human society that has ever existed has not only had artists and musicians, but has devoted significant portions of its resources to the arts, whether through active participation in the creation/performance of art, or through passive consumption of art-as-entertainment.

Every single government for every large civilization throughout history has used art as propaganda. Art has emotional impact, which makes it a powerful political tool for influencing how people think.

In modern society, even fields that on the surface seem to have no connection to the arts are still greatly impacted by the arts.

Medical students and engineering students will often say that they study better when they have music playing in the background. One study from a few decades ago showed that performance in standardized tests improved significantly when Mozart was played during the test.

That means that just being exposed to art improves general cognition, which in turn impacts performance — in every field.

Retail establishments play music on their store loudspeakers because studies show customers buy more/shop longer when music is playing. Every product sold in a retail store comes in a package designed by artists. Arts drive the economy.

If a society were to exist without art, I’m not sure we would even be able to recognize it as a society. It certainly wouldn’t be a society of human beings. Aliens, maybe.
