A musician using an open flute of length 50 cm produces second harmonic sound waves. A person runs towards the musician from another end of a hall at a speed of 10 km/h. If the wave speed is 330 m/s, the frequency heard by the running person shall be close to

Given length of the flute is l= 0.5 m

speed of the sound wave= 330 m/s

Frequency produced by the flute,

f= 2(V₀/2l)   [as it produces 2nd harmonic]

  =(2×330)/(2×0.5)=660 Hz

From Doppler's effect,

speed of the person V= 10×(5/18)=25/9 m/s

So frequency heard by the running person is

f₀=[(V+V₀)/V]f

  =[{(5/9)+330}/330]×660=671.12 Hz
