a) cinnabar is the main ore of mercury

HgS + O2 → Hg + SO2

HgS + Fe → Hg + FeS

4HgS + 4CaO → 4Hg + 3CaS + CaSO4

b) The thermite reaction. Demonstration. This demonstration shows the highly exothermic reaction between aluminium and iron(III) oxide that produces molten iron. This is a competition reaction, showing aluminium to be a more reactive metal than iron.

it is used as once molten iron solidifies it is very hard to break so it is used join and repair things

c) electrolysis

Mercury is obtained from its sulphide ore called cinnabar, HgS which is actually mercury(ii) sulphide. 2. when this mercury oxide is heated at about 300 degrees Celsius , it decomposes to form mercury metal. Mercury is obtained from its sulphide ore called cinnabar, HgS which is actually mercury
