Hi friend,

a) Hydrocarbons are the compound of hydrogen and carbon as it is already cleared by the name HYDRO+CARBON.So after combustion CO2(carbon dioxide) and H2O(water).

b)I know only about 2 gases which can be tested by different methods. They are-:

•Oxygen-Take a splinter and take it near near the test tube.If oxygen is released then the splinter will burn brightly and with a pop sound.

•Hydrogen-Do the same and if hydrogen is released then the splinter will burn with a blue flame and with a hiss sound.

•If carbon dioxide is released then the lime water will turn milky.

Hope it helped you............................

Nikki57: ok then i m editing
Subhangi11: co2is tested by lime water test means co2 is passed
Subhangi11: to lime water and it turns milky
Nikki57: yes
Nikki57: sry sry if hydrogen is released then pop sound will come
Subhangi11: but the gas evolved is co2,isn't it?
Subhangi11: then what is about hydrogen here?

a) The products obtained are H₂O and CO₂
Whether the hydrocarbon is saturated or unsaturated, the products water and carbon dioxide will always remain the same.

b) The gas evolved is carbon dioxide. Pass the gas obtained through lime water, if you notice that the lime water turns milky then you will know that the gas is carbon dioxide.

Hope This helps You!
