A ndar system is designed such that the probability of detecting the presenee of an aircraft in its range is 98 96.However if no aircraft is present in its range it still reports ( falsely) that an aireraft is present with a probability of 5% .At anytime the probability that an aircraft is present within the range of the radar is 7% .

Solution:

Sum of probability of an event and its complimentary event is 1

or

Sum of probability of an event and not event is 1

probability that an aircraft is present within the range of the radar is 7% .

= 0.07

probability that an aircraft is not present within the range of the radar  = 1 - 0.7

= 0.93

= 93 %

The probability that an aircraft is not present within the range of the radar = 93 %
