A neon-dioxygen mixture contains 70.6g dioxygen and 167.5g neon. If pressure of the mixture of gases in the cylinder is 25 bar. What is the partia pressure of dioxygen and neon in the misture

Partial pressure is equal to :

mole fraction × total pressure

So moles of O2 = 70.6/36 = 1.96 mol

moles of neon = 167.5/20 = 8.375 mol

So mole fraction of O2 :

= 1.96/(1.96+8.375) = 1.96/10.335

= 0.189

So partial pressure of O2 :

= 0.189×25 = 4.74 pa

So partial pressure of neon :

= 25-4.74 = 20.26 pa
