Given: A network of resistors is connected to a 16V battery with internal resistance of 1 ohm.

To find: The equivalent resistance of the network.

Solution:

  • So there are some resistance in series and some in parallel. So first lets calculate the resistance in parallel.
  • The first combination is of 4 and 4 ohm

         R(parallel) = 1/ R1 + 1 / R2

                           = 1 / 4 + 1 / 4

                           = 2 / 4

                          = 1 / 4         ...............(i)

         R(parallel) = 1/ R1 + 1 / R2

                           = 1 / 12 + 1 / 6

                           = 1 / 12 + 2 / 12

                           = 3 / 12

                          = 1 / 4       ..............(ii)

  • Now adding these two with series resistors, we get:

          = 1/4 + 1/4 + 1 + 1

          = 2/4 + 2

          = 1/2 + 2

          = 5/2

Answer:

So the equivalent resistance of the network is 5/2.
