A new quilt is warmer than an old one. ... A new quilt is warmer because the air which is trapped inside the cotton or woollen clothing acts as an insulator and does not allow the transfer of heat.

Answer:

  • In general quilt consists of air spaces between the woollen layers. These air spaces will hold the air and acts as insulators.
  • A new quilt has larger air spaces and hence the heat of the body is not escaped.
  • When the quilt gets older the air spaces between the woollen layers can be lessened.
  • Hence there are high chances of not holding the air in spaces and as a result we don’t have warm feeling as before.
