Answer:

Lets say that the unit is called c and therefore it means that it means that distance travelled by light in one second is c. Now 8m 20s is 60x8 + 20 seconds i.e. 500s. So light takes 500s to reach earth. Therefore the distance between earth and sun becomes 5

500 Units

Given:

Speed of Light = 1 unit

Time taken in mins = 8 mins

Time taken in seconds = 20 seconds

Calculating total time taken by converting everything into seconds:

= Time in mins x 60 + Time in Seconds

= 8 x 60 + 20

= 480 + 20

= 500 seconds

To Find:

The Distance Between Sun And Earth

Calculating:

Formula that we use to calculate the distance between the Sun and Earth:

= Time Taken By Light To Complete The Distance x Speed Of Light

Substituting the values known to us in this formula we get:

= 500 x 1

= 500 units

Therefore, the distance between the Sun and Earth in terms of the new unit if light takes 8 min and 20 seconds to cover the distance is 500 units.
