A new unit of length is chosen such that the speed of light in vaccum is unity what is the distance between the sun and earth in terms of the new unot if light takes 8 min 20s to cover this distance.

Distance between the sun and the Earth = Speed of the light * Time taken by light to cover the distance

Given that in New unit,speed of the light = 1 unit

Time taken, t = 8 min 20s = 500s

∴Distance between the sun and the Earth

= 1 * 500 = 500 units

Distance between the sun and the Earth = Speed of the light in vaccum * Time taken by light to travelling from Sun to Earth = 3 * 10^8 m/8min 20 sec

Now in the new system the speed of light in vaccum is unity
