Given : A newborn who weighs 2,500 g or less has a low birth weight.

To find : z-score of a 2,500 g baby

Solution:

Missing Data :

birth weights of newborn babies are approximately normally distributed with a mean of mu = 3,600 grams and a standard deviation of sigma = 500 grams

Mean = 3600

SD  = 500

Z score = ( Value - Mean)/SD

=> Z Score = ( 2500 - 3600)/500

=> Z score = -1100/500

=> Z score = -2.2

z-score of a 2,500 g baby  =  -2.2

=> 1.39 % Newborn baby have low birth weight
