Given : A newly appointed cla ss teacher wants to as sign a unique 5 digit roll number to her students .

she also want all the roll numbers to start with 14.

To Find : In how many ways can she form the roll numbers if no digit appears more than once

Solution:

5 Digit roll number start with 14

14abc

hence 3 more digits required

and digits available to choose are  8   as 2 digits are already used

Hence 3 digits out of 8 can be selected in

⁸C₃   = 56 ways

now 3 Digits can be arranged in 3 !  = 6 ways

Hence total possible roll numbers = 56 x 6

= 336

336  roll numbers
