This is the law of Multiple proportions

It states that :

If two elements say A and B combine together to form more than one compound, then several masses of A which separately combine with B are in a simple ratio.

It ascertains that two elements may combine to form more than one product.

Examples are as follows :

Carbon combines with oxygen to form CO₂ and CO.

Nitrogen combines with Oxygen to form NO and NO₂.

it is based on law of multiple proportion which states that if two or more elements combined together to form two or more components they do so in a simple ratio.
