Hydrogen chloride gas gives dense white fumes (of ammonium chloride) with ammonium hydroxide.

HCl+NH 4OH→NH 4Cl+H 2O

The ammonium chloride gas which is formed is fine in size and gets suspended in the gas.

Due to this white fumes appears, ammonium chloride is white in colour......
