Let the distance between both station be 'd'
Trip-1 : distance = d, speed = 54 kmph ⇒ time = d/54 hr
Trip-2 : distance = d, speed = 27 kmph ⇒ time = d/27 hr
Total distance = 2d, total time = d/54 + d/27
∴ Average speed = (2d)/(d/54)+(d/27) = 2*54*27/(54+27) = 36 kmph

Trip-2 : distance = d, speed = 27 kmph ⇒ time = d/27 hr
