Answer:

Given data:

The speed of the non-stop bus from one station = 54 km/h

The bus returns with a speed = 36 km/hr

To find:

Average speed = ?

Solution:

Let us assume that the distance between both the station be x.

In first travel, time taken is given below:

In second travel, time taken is given below:

Therefore, the total time taken is,

Total distance travelled be,

Answer:

43.2 km/hr

Explanation:

Let the distance between both station be 'd'

Trip-1 : distance = d, speed = 54 kmph ⇒ time = d/54 hr

Trip-2 : distance = d, speed = 36 kmph ⇒ time = d/36 hr

Now,

Total distance = 2d, total time = d/54 + d/36

∴ Average speed = (2d)/(d/54)+(d/36)

                             = 216/5

                       = 43.2 km/hr

Hope it helps!
