This is due to mutation which is a sudden heritable change. The dominant trait for bearing different colours of flowers is not expressed in this situation. A recessive trait (bearing white flowers ) is expressed where the new generation is having heterozygous recessive allele.

Answer:

When a normal pea plant beaaring coloured flowers suddenly starts producing white flowers, there is a possibility that:

(a) The white flower gene is a recessive gene and needs a homozygous condition to express itself. Thus, when the plant recieved two reccessive alleles, it produced white flowers.

(b) A mutation in the genes of the flower has occured. This can cause the White flower gene to change to dominant and thus express itself after several generations.
