A normal year has 365 days but a Leap Day has 366 days. The leap day is an extra, or
intercalary, day which is added it to the shortest month of the year, February.
In the Gregorian calendar, three criteria must be taken into account to identify leap years:
The year is exactly divisible by 4;
If the year is exactly divisible by 100, then it is not a leap year, unless the year is also
divisible by 400.

Originally there are 365\frac{1}{4} days in a year but, to avoid confusion it is conventionally added after every 4 years as an extra day to the shortest month of the year, February.

  • 2020 is a leap year as it can be divided by 4 and also it is already not divisible by 100.
  • The number of months that have 31 days remains the same for any year i.e. 7. Hence the fraction of months that have 31 days in 2020 will be 7/12. (option ii)
  • Similarly the number of months that have 30 days also remains the same for every year i.e. 4. Hence the fraction of months that have 30 days in 2020 will be 4/12. (option ii)
  • No, this statement is not true as the number of days in each month is not the same so we cannot consider every month to be an equal part of the year. Also, this statement will be mathematically wrong as according to this 29 × 12 = 366, which is false.
  • Reason 1 and Reason 2 are true as they are according to the Gregorian calendar criteria.
