a number decreased by 5% of it is 3800.what is the number?

Let the original number = x

After 5% decreased the

new number = 3800

Decreased % = d = 5%


Original number ( 100 - d ) /100 = new number

x ( 100 - 5 ) / 100 = 3800

95 x / 100 = 3800

x = 3800 × ( 100 / 95 )

After cancellation , we get

x = 4000

Therefore ,

Required original number = x = 4000
