then Find the decrease in the number :

since ,given that after the decrease of 27.5 % in the number then obtained number is 87.

according to question ,

x - 0.275 x = 87

x (1 - 0.275 ) = 87

0.725 x = 87

725 x / 1000 = 87

725 x = 87000

x = 120

therefore , required number is 120 .
