Let the number be x

So, 20% of x = \dfrac{20}{100} × x

= \dfrac{x}{5}

Accoding to the question,

x - \dfrac{x}{5} = 10

\dfrac{4x}{5} = 10

4x = 50

2x = 25

x = \dfrac{25}{2}

x = 12.5

\therefore{} \text{The number is 12.5}

Let that number be  x

Now , Given  that  number exceeds  20% of  itself by 10. It  means,

Number  = 20 %  of  number + 10

x =  20%  of x + 10

20% of x :-   x × 20/100

                   = x/5

∴ x = x/5 + 10

x-\frac{x}{5}=10\\\;\\\frac{5x-x}{5}=10\\\;\\\frac{4x}{5}=10\\\;\\4x=50\\\;\\2x=25\\\;\\x=12.5
