Let the number be a

According to question,

a - 24 = 2a/3

=> a - 2a/3 = 24

=> a/3= 24

=> a = 72

Now,

1/8 × a = 72 / 8 = 9

Option (A) is correct answer..

arjunan80: why we putting 2a
gaurav2013c: because in the question it is given that after subtracting 24 from the number we get two third of the given number
gaurav2013c: two third = 2/3
gaurav2013c: 2/3 of a
gaurav2013c: = 2a/3
arjunan80: 2/3 multiply a
gaurav2013c: yes
arjunan80: ok thanks
