Answer:

Let the number be X

increase it by 20% = X + X × 20/100 = 120x/100

According to the question , 120x/100 = 96

X = 96 × 100 / 120

= 80

Therefore the actual number is 80

Given :-

  • A no. increased by 20% gives 96.

To find :-

  • The number = ?

Solution :-

Let the no. be x

  :\implies\bold{x  \times  \dfrac{20}{100}}

  :\implies\bold{x  \times  \dfrac{2}{10}}

  :\implies\bold{x  \times  \dfrac{1}{5}}

  :\implies\bold{ \dfrac{x}{5}}

  :\implies\bold{ \dfrac{x}{5}  + 20}

  :\implies\bold{ \dfrac{x + 100}{5} }

  :\implies\bold{ \dfrac{x + 100}{5}  = 96}

  :\implies\bold{{x + 100} = 480}

  :\implies\bold{x= 380}

  • \boxed{\sf\red{The~no.~is~380}}
