Solution:

let the number be x.

Twice the number means = 2x

Twice the number increase by 8 means =2x+8

Twice the number increase by 8 is 20 then means

2x+8=20

Therefore the solution to this equation will be as follows:

2x=20–8

2x=12

Divide both sides by the coefficient of x,that is 2 in this case:

2x/2=12/2

This becomes:

x=6
