Let that number be x.
x is added to its square
square of x is x²
Adding x² with x gives 6
==> x+x²=6
==>x(x+1)=6
Now think that if x is 2 then x+1 is 3
x(x+1) = 2*3 =6
and also
when x is -3
(-3)(-3+1)
=(-3)(-2) =6
So 2 and -3 satisfies the value of x
The number is either 2 or -3
Hope it helps
