A number is decided into two parts one part is 2less then three times the other and their ratio is 5:3 find the number and its part

Let one part of the number be `x`. Then the other number will be 3x-2. their ratio is 5:3. So the numbers can also be assumed as 5x and 3x. Therefore,                     x+3x-2 = 5x+3x ; 4x-2 = 8x ; -2 = 8x-4x ; 4x = -2 ; x = -2/4 =>-1/4. therefore x = -1/4.Then 3x-2 = 3(-1/4) - 2=>-11/4 ;. Therefore the two parts are -1/4 and -11/4. their sum is -12/4 => -3. therefore the number is -3
