ATQ,

a number is divided into two parts, one part is 3 times the other part.

let the small part be x.

therefore the greater part is 3x.

given that their difference is 16.

==> 3x - x = 16

==> 2x = 16

==> x = 16/2

==> x = 8

hence, first part = x = 8

second part = 3x = 3 × 8 = 24

VERIFICATION :-

24 - 8 = 16

hence verified...

final answer -

the original number is = 24 + 8

= 32
