A number is divided into two parts such that one part is 10 more than the other. If the two
parts are in the ratio 5:3, find the number and the two parts.

let one part of number = x

therefore , other part of number = x+10

according to question ,

x+10/x=5/3

3(x+10)= 5x

3x+30 =5x

30 = 5x -3x

30 = 2x

or x=30/2

x=15

therefore one part of number = 15

and other part = 15+10 =25

hence number = 15+25 =40
