Step-by-step explanation:

When we think the number is 100 then we decrease 40% and the remainder will be 60 , then we will decrease 60% from 60 and then the remainder will be 24..

Answer:

Let the number be 100

decrease in the number =40/100×100 =40

number after these decreasing =100 - 40 =60

decrease =60% of 60

=60/100×60 =6×6 =36

number after 2nd decrease =40 - 36 =4

total decrease on the whole =40 + 36 =76

and the percentage decrease on the whole =76/100 ×100 =76
