let the number be 100
Given that it is decreased by 30%
=> new number is 70
Also , then increased by 40%
Therefore new number will be
= 70 + 70×40/100
= 98
initial number = 100
final number = 98
decrease = 2

Let the number be 100.
(i)
A number is first decreased by 30%.
⇒ 30% of 100
⇒ 30.
Hence, decreased number = 100 - 30 = 70.
(ii)
Number is increased by 40%.
⇒ 40% of 70
⇒ (40/100) * 70
⇒ 28.
Hence, increased number = 70 + 28 = 98
⇒ 98.
(iii)
Net decrease = 100 - 98
⇒ 2.
(iv)
% decrease = (2/100 * 100)%
⇒ 2%.
Therefore, % decrease = 2%.
Hope it helps!
