Let number be x
after 20 % increase = x + 20x /100
= x + x /5
= 6x /5
after 15 % decrease= 6x /5 - (15 /100)* 6x / 5
= 6x / 5 - 90 x /500
= 6x /5 - 9x /50
= 51 x / 100
which is 51 % of x
It means ( 100 - 51 ) % = 49 % decrease
after 20 % increase = x + 20x /100
= x + x /5
= 6x /5
after 15 % decrease= 6x /5 - (15 /100)* 6x / 5
= 6x / 5 - 90 x /500
= 6x /5 - 9x /50
= 51 x / 100
which is 51 % of x
It means ( 100 - 51 ) % = 49 % decrease
