Let the number be x.

STEP-1 :-
number is x+(20% of x) = 6x/5

STEP-2 :-
number is 6x/5 - (10% of 6x/5) = 54x/50

That is 54/50 % change = 1.08% change in the number

Overall change = 8% Increase

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's assume that,

  • The number is = 100

  • 20% of this number will be = 20

100 \times  \frac{20}{100}  = 20 \\

New number = Initial umber + percentage increase

  • => 100+20=120

Then it decreases by 10%

100 \times  \frac{10}{120} = 12 \\

  • Final number = 120-12=108

This number is 8 more than our assumed number, so now we have to calculate the how much 8 is in % of 100.

100 \times  \frac{8}{100} = 8\% \\

The answer for this question is total increase of 8%.
