A number is mistakenly divided by 5 in stead of being multiplied by 5. find the percentage error

true value is 5x

actual value is (1/5)x = .2x

the difference  is 5x - .2x = 4.8x

 

percent error = 100 x difference /true value = 100 x 4.8x/5x = 100 x .96 = 96% error

Let the actual number be X :. Mistaken answer=x/5 Actual answer=5x Difference=5x-x/5 =(25x-x)/5 =24x/5 Now, Percentage=difference/actual×100 =24x/5×1/5x×100 =24/25×100 =24×4 =96% (ÆÑẞWĒR)
