The chance that it is a multiple of either 4 or 14 is  \frac{3}{10}

Given:

A number is selected at random from the first 40 natural numbers.

To Find:

The chance that it is a multiple of either 4 or 14.

Solution:

To find the chance that it is a multiple of either 4 or 14.

As we know,

The total numbers are 40.

So,

n(S) = 40

Now,

The multiples of 4 in the first 40 natural numbers = 4, 8, 12,14,20,24,28, 32, 36, 40

Total 10.

Now,

The multiples of 14 :

14 and 28

Total 2

So,

The chance that it is a multiple of either 4 or 14 is:

 \frac{probability \: of \: getting \: first \: multiples \: of \: 4 + multiples \: of \: 14}{sample \: space}  =  \frac{10 + 2}{40}  =  \frac{12}{40}  =  \frac{3}{10}

Henceforth, the chance that it is a multiple of either 4 or 14 is

Henceforth, the chance that it is a multiple of either 4 or 14 is  \frac{3}{10}
