let the number be x
the other number will be 2x
a/q x-15=3(2x-15)
x-15=6x-45
x-6x=-45+15
-5x=-30
x=(-30)÷(-5)
x=6
2x=12

verifying (x=6,2x=12)
x-15=3(2x-15)
6-15=3(12-15)
6-15=3×(-3)
-9=-9
verified
