Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

A number is twice the other number when the larger number is subtracted from 50 the result is 2 more than the smaller number is subtracted from 40.

To find :-

Find the number ?

Solution :-

Let the number be X

Then the other number = Twice the number

=> 2X

Now,

Larger number = 2X

Smaller number = X

Given that

On subtracting larger number from 50

=> 50-2X

2 more than the smaller number is subtracted from 40 = 40-X+2

=> 42-X

According to the given problem

the larger number is subtracted from 50 the result is 2 more than the smaller number is subtracted from 40.

=> 50-2X = 42-X

=> 50-42 = -X+2X

=> 8 = X

=> X = 8

The number = 8

Answer:-

The required number for the given problem is 8

Check :-

The number = 8

Twice the number = 2×8 = 16

On subtracting larger number from 50

=> 50-16 = 34------(1)

the larger number is subtracted from 50 the result is 2 more than the smaller number is subtracted from 40.

=> 40-8+2

=> 32+2

=> 34------(2)

(1)&(2) are same.

Verified the given relations in the given problem.
