Let the number of stamps be x

If shared in the ratio 4:9

Peter receives 4/13 x

Paul receives 9/13 x

If shared in the ratio 9:4

Peter receives 9/13 x

Paul receives 4/13 x

If they were shared as 9:4, peter would receive 45 more stamps.

9/13 x – 4/13 x = 45

5/13 x = 45

x = 45 x 13/5

x = 117

therefore, there were 117 stamps

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of stamps be x

If shared in the ratio 4:9

Peter receives 4/13 x

Paul receives 9/13 x

If shared in the ratio 9:4

Peter receives 9/13 x

Paul receives 4/13 x

If they were shared as 9:4, peter would receive 45 more stamps.

9/13 x – 4/13 x = 45

5/13 x = 45

x = 45 x 13/5

x = 117

therefore, there were 117 stamps
