Let larger no be x and smaller no be y
x =2*y
when the larger is subtracted from 50, the result is 2 more than the smaller is subtracted from 40.
so 50-x= (40-y)+2
put x=2y in above equation
50-(2y) =40-y+2
50-2y= 42-y
move -2y to the right
50 = 42-y+2y
50= 42+y
move 42 to the left
50-42 =y
8=y
so , y= 8
x = 2*8
=16
x= 16
larger no is 16 & smaller no is 8
x =2*y
when the larger is subtracted from 50, the result is 2 more than the smaller is subtracted from 40.
so 50-x= (40-y)+2
put x=2y in above equation
50-(2y) =40-y+2
50-2y= 42-y
move -2y to the right
50 = 42-y+2y
50= 42+y
move 42 to the left
50-42 =y
8=y
so , y= 8
x = 2*8
=16
x= 16
larger no is 16 & smaller no is 8

Questioñ:
A number is twice another number. When the larger is subtracted from 50 , the result is 2 more than when the smaller is subtracted from 40.
Find the numbers.
Solutioñ:
Given
- A number is twice another number.
Let,
- The smaller number be x.
- The larger number be 2x.
Ñow , applying condition
50 - 2x = (40 - x )+ 2
-2x + x = 42 - 50
- x = -8
x = 8
Ñow we know
- The smaller number is 8
Therefore,
The bigger number is 2x= 2(8) = 16
